Burns & Cudmore Named DSC Players of the Week
WIINGATE, N.C. - Mars Hill College senior attack Tim Burns has been named the Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Mars Hill junior midfielder Chris Cudmore is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Saint Leo attack Matt Obermeyer is the Freshman of the Week.
Burns had a huge week to lead the Lions to a pair of conference wins, as the 12th-ranked Lions clinched at least a share of the 2011 regular season conference title. He started his week with six goals in the 18-8 win over Saint Leo. Burns capped his week with five goals and two assists in the 12-7 victory at Wingate. He added five ground balls on the week.
Cudmore, a long-stick midfielder, also played a huge role in Mars Hill's 2-0 week. He started his week with two goals and an assist in the Saint Leo win, while collecting eight ground balls and causing three turnovers. In the victory over Wingate, Cudmore held Wingate's leading midfield scorer Derek Watts without a point, while also leading Mars Hill's man-down unit by holding the Bulldogs to one-of-eight on their man-up opportunities.
Obermeyer netted 12 goals in Saint Leo's three games last week.
He started his week by racking up eight goals and two assists in
the 17-9 win over Lindenwood. He added three goals against #12 Mars
Hill, while capping his week with a goal against Lenoir-Rhyne.
Obermeyer also collected six ground balls on the week for the
Lions.
