Burns leads No. 12 Lacrosse over St. Leo
MARS HILL, N.C. - Tim Burns scored six goals to lead No. 12 Mars Hill past St. Leo 18-8 in Deep South Conference men's lacrosse action on Friday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improves to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while St. Leo falls to 5-5 and 2-2 in the league.
Tyler Farmer added five goals for Mars Hill. T.J. Cowx and Chris Cudmore had three and two goals, respectively. Eric Benesch recorded three assists. Dylan Price made eight saves.
Matt Obermeyer led St. Leo with three goals. Larry McLaughlin had one assist. Patrick Berry tallied 15 saves.
Mars Hill jumped out to a 6-3 lead at halftime and outscored St. Leo 12-5 in the second half to pull away. Mars Hill outshot St. Leo 43-28 and won the ground ball count 41-31. St. Leo had 27 turnovers compared to only 18 for Mars Hill.
Mars Hill travels to Wingate on Sunday. The game starts at 2 p.m. ET.
