Baseball Takes Weekend Series from Anderson
The Lions split a double-header with Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Henderson Field to take the weekend series 2-1.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions split a double-header with Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Henderson Field to take the weekend series 2-1. Mars Hill won the first game 7-1 and then lost the nightcap, 13-1. MHU improved to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the SAC. The Trojans fell to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in the league.
In the three-game series, Dalton Eisenbath hit .571 going 4-7 at the plate with a triple, four RBI and three walks for an on-base percentage of .700. He played equally as well at first base with 23 putouts an assist and no errors. Tommy Scala and Phillip Carroll hit .400 in the series. Both players had a pair of doubles and the same number of RBI. Carroll also recorded a triple in game three.
Game 1: Mars Hill 7, Anderson 1
The Lions started game one off strong scoring five runs in their first at-bat on four hits led by a two-RBI single from Eisenbath and a RBI double down the left field line by Andy Runion. Nathan Galliford scored the Trojans' only run in the contest belting a homerun to left-center field in the fourth inning. Carroll doubled off the right field fence in the eighth frame to drive in Evan Rogers and Zach Bumgarner to make the final tally 7-1 in favor of the Lions.
Dale Innes threw eight innings allowing just five hits and one run to pick up the win (1-0) on the mound for MHU. He struck out 10 batters in the victory. JT Trujillo took the loss (0-1) on the hill for the Trojans.
Game 2: Anderson 13, Mars Hill 1
After a scoreless first inning of play, Adam Daniel singled to center field to plate Nick Villalobos to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage. After another scoreless inning, Anderson exploded for 12 runs on eight hits to seal the win in game three. Galliford and David Jones accounted for four of the runs in the at-bat.
The Trojans added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Matthew Powell singled to score Brett Cash. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
Mars Hill will play a three-game SAC series at Newberry College next weekend. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. and then meet for a double-header at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
