Baseball Falls at Coker
The Lions lost at Coker College 10-2 Sunday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Tom J. New Field.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Lions lost at Coker College 10-2 Sunday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Tom J. New Field. Mars Hill fell to 5-10 overall and 4-5 in the SAC. The Cobras improved to 8-3 on the year and 4-2 in the league.
Evan Rogers and David King led Mars Hill with two hits apiece. Both of King's hits were doubles and he added an RBI and a run scored. Dalton Eisenbath went 1-3 with an RBI. Lane Grant took the loss (0-1) pitching in relief for MHU.
Jarren Donato led Coker at the plate going 3-5 with two RBI and the same number of runs scored. Fico Kondla followed going 2-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Forrest Arnold picked up the win (2-0) pitching 0.2 innings in relief for the Cobras.
Kondla singled up the middle to drive in Ernie Kirkwood to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Coker added another run in their fifth at-bat before Mars Hill tied the game in the sixth inning when King doubled to plate Tommy Scala and Eisenbath later singled to drive in King.
Clint Allen drove in what would later prove to be the game winner in the bottom half of the sixth frame when Donato scored on his single up the middle to put the Cobras ahead, 3-2.
Coker then exploded for six runs in the seventh inning on four hits highlighted by a two-RBI double down the right field line by Dustin Russell. Coker added an insurance run the eighth inning to make the final tally 10-2 in favor of the hosts.
Mars Hill will host Bluefield State in a double-header on Wednesday, February 26. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
