Baseball Loses to King
The Lions lost to King 14-1 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions lost to King 14-1 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field. Mars Hill fell to 7-12 on the season while the Tornados improved to 6-13-1 overall.
Evan Rogers led MHU at the plate going 2-4 with a solo homerun. Alan Kolb took the loss (0-2) for the Lions on the mound.
Geoff Cieslewitz led King going 4-5 with four RBI. He hit for the cycle in the game. Carl Roberts was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Mitch Stophel picked up the win (1-1) for King on the mound throwing six innings scattering the same number of hits.
Cieslewitz hit a triple to left center field to drive in Justin Trent and Roberts to put King on the board in the second inning. Evan Rogers cut the Tornados lead to 2-1 in the third inning after he hit a solo homerun to left field. A solo homerun by Garrett Cook pushed King's lead to 3-1 in the fourth frame.
Stephen Mullins crossed the plate in the Tornados fifth at-bat on an infield single by Roberts to extend King's lead to 4-1. The Tornados then exploded for five runs in the seventh inning on five hits highlighted by a two-run homerun from Cieslewitz.
King added five more runs in the eighth inning on five hits and one Lion error to end the scoring in the game. Tyler Raymond had a two-RBI double in the at-bat for the Tornados.
Mars Hill will play a three-game SAC series at Carson Newman this weekend. The teams will meet for a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. and then play a double header at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
