Searcy Pitches Baseball to Win at North Greenville
The Lions defeated North Greenville, 5-1 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Ashmore Field.
TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Lions defeated North Greenville, 5-1 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Ashmore Field. Mars Hill improved to 11-17 on the season while the Crusaders fell to 4-20 overall.
Kevin Searcy threw a complete game scattering five hits allowing just one run while not walking a single batter. He improved to 1-1 on the year. David King led MHU at the plate going 2-5 with two hits, three RBI, a run scored, a homerun and a double. Phillip Carroll also tallied two hits, a double and a run scored. Evan Rogers recorded a double and a run scored.
Stephen Cantrell led NGU offensively going 1-4 with an RBI and a double. Ben Kramm took the loss (0-1) pitching in relief for the Crusaders.
King doubled in the Lions' third at-bat to drive in Dustin Jones to score the first run of the game. Cantrell hit an RBI double of his own in the fifth frame to plate Foley George and tie the contest at 1-all.
The Lions put the game away in the seventh inning by scoring four runs on four hits. King hit a two-run homerun in the inning and Andy Runion and Tommy Scala accounted for the other two runs in the at-bat. Searcy pitched three more scoreless innings after this point to obtain the complete game win on the mound.
Mars Hill will host Bluefield State College on Thursday, March 20. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
