Lions Earn Eighth In Newberry College Invitational
KIAWAH, S.C. – The Lions men’s golf team collected an eighth place finish in the 2017 Newberry College Invitational on Tuesday, February 21.
KIAWAH, S.C. – The Lions men's golf team collected an eighth place finish in the 2017 Newberry College Invitational on Tuesday, February 21. Mars Hill finished the three-round event with a total team score of 917 (+53), while Clayton State (+24) took home the team honors.
After a second round that was finished this morning due to darkness on the playing course last night, Adam Lumley paced the Lions with a tie for fifth place after firing a 54-hole total of 218 (+2). Harry Butler continued his consistent play, finishing in a tie for 16th (225, +9).
Teammate Stephen Tomasson tallied a tie for 38th (231, +15), while Nicholas Boone (250, +34) and Dalton Thompson (268, +52) finished 74th and 79th, respectively. Thompson had the greatest improvement from day one to day two. Following a first 18 score of 103 (+31), Thompson shaved 24 strokes off his score and turned in a brilliant 79 (+8) in the second round.
Newberry's Spencer Skiff ran away with the individual title following a three-round total of 208 (-8).
The Lions will return to the links on March 12-14 as they will take their talents to Monroe, N.C. to participate in the Wingate Ralph Hargett Spring Invitational.
