Lions Take Home Third at Cavalier Spring Invitational: Challis Earns All-Tournament
MORGANTON, N.C. - The Mars Hill men’s golf team collected a third place finish after two rounds at the Cavalier Spring Invitational on March 6-7 at the Silver Creek Plantation Golf Course.
MORGANTON, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's golf team collected a third place finish after two rounds at the Cavalier Spring Invitational on March 6-7 at the Silver Creek Plantation Golf Course. After firing a first round score of 324 (+36), the Lions cut one stroke off that total with a final round 323 (+35). Spartanburg Methodist College took home the team honors with a two-day total of 625 (+49), while Brewton-Parker's James Tansley captured the individual crown after shooting a two-round total of 152 (+8).
Freshman Luke Challis earned a spot on the all-tournament team with his third place finish. Challis shot a 78 (+6) on day one before finishing the tournament with a 76 (+4). Teammate Harry Butler was not too far behind as he tallied a respectable sixth place finish following his two rounds of 78 (+6).
Stephen Thomasson (+22) finished in a tie for 18th, while Nicholas Boone shot a two-day total of 168 (+24) to capture 20th overall. Dalton Thompson (+25) and Levi Neeson (+38) rounded out the contestants for the Lions with 22nd and 29th place finishes, respectively.
The Lions will return to action on March 13-14 as they travel to Monroe, N.C. to compete in the Wingate Ralph Hargett Spring Invitational.
