Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to No. 21 Limestone

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team lost their season opener to no. 21 Limestone 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Saints improved to 2-0 on the year.
Sam Orritt scored the first goal of the match at the 20:27 mark on a through ball from William Picoux. Nine minutes later Conor Young found the back of the net from 10 yards out on an unassisted score to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage they took into the locker room at the intermission. Shots were dead even in the first half at 4-all.
Mars Hill out shot the Saints 9-3 in the second half but they were not able to score on those attempts. For the game, the Lions out shot the Saints, 13-7. MHU edged Limestone 5-4 in corner kicks. Oliver Pannell played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lions and made four saves. Tom Godfrey also played the entire match in the net for Limestone and made seven saves.
Mars Hill will host Young Harris on September 10. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
