ANDERSON, S.C. – Alex Mullen's second goal of the season in the 51st minute was the only offense the Mars Hill Lions would need in a 1-0 victory over Anderson on Saturday afternoon. Mars Hill improves to 3-4 on the season and 3-1 in the South Atlantic Conference while Anderson falls to 3-4 and 1-2 in league play.
Mullen converted a cross from Amine Merdjett to the right side of the net, beating Anderson goalkeeper Bo Haug. The Lions defense stood tough, holding Anderson to five shots for the remainder of the match.
Chris Mitchell faced 11 shots and made two saves, including one with under three minutes remaining to keep the Lions on top. It is his first shutout of the season and third victory of the year. Haug faced 12 shots and made three saves. The Lions held a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.
Mars Hill continues on the road next Saturday at Wingate. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
