Men's Soccer Advances to SAC Tournament Semifinals
The Lions advanced to the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer tournament after defeating Lincoln Memorial, 1-0 Tuesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions advanced to the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference men's soccer tournament after defeating Lincoln Memorial, 1-0 Tuesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 9-7 overall while the Railsplitters fell to 7-6-3 on the season.
Amine Merdjett scored the lone goal in the match from around 15 yards out off a pass from Alex Mullen at the 34:10 mark. LMU outshot the Lions, 23-18. The Railsplitters edged MHU in corner kicks, 7-5. Chris Mitchell played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lions and made five saves. Marcel Barwanietz also played the entire contest in the net for LMU and made four saves. Tonight's victory was the Lions' sixth consecutive win over LMU and their third win in four meetings in SAC Tournament play.
Mars Hill will face Tusculum in their semifinal match at 7 p.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday night. Match time is set for a 7 p.m. start. The Pioneers defeated Carson-Newman 2-1 in
Jefferson City, Tenn., to advance to the next round. Mars Hill won the regular season meeting against Tusculum 1-0 on the road in Greeneville, Tenn. Cody Forman scored the match winner in the 53rd minute on an unassisted goal.
