The Lees-McRae men’s soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the first half and kept Mars Hill scoreless in the second half en route to a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night.

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the first half and kept Mars Hill scoreless in the second half en route to a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night. Mars Hill is 0-4 on the season while Lees-McRae improves to 4-1.
Alex Mullen scored his first goal of the season in the third minute, finishing an Amine Merdjett cross for a 1-0 Lion lead. Lees-McRae tied the match just over a minute later on James Galvani's fourth goal of the season with assists from Thomas Deeley and James Smith.
The Bobcats pulled ahead in the 11th minute on Thomas Deeley's second goal of the year with help from Nathan Watt. Watt gave Lees-McRae a 3-1 lead just before halftime as he finished a ball from Galvani.
Lees-McRae outshot Mars Hill 14-13. Mars Hill took three shots in the 52nd minute but a pair of blocked shots and a team save kept the Lions off of the scoresheet. The Lions took eight of their thirteen shots in the second half.
Chris Mitchell made five saves for Mars Hill while Tyler Pavlet made four saves for the Bobcats.
The Lions return to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Tusculum for a 1 p.m. match.
