Men's Soccer Upsets No. 20 Lincoln Memorial
The Lions’ men’s soccer team upset no. 20 Lincoln Memorial University, 2-1 Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team upset no. 20 Lincoln Memorial University, 2-1 Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the SAC. The Railsplitters fell to 4-1-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in the league.
Joao Caselatto scored the match, winner on a cross from Scottie Melvin at the 81:26 mark. Leonardo Da silva put the Railsplitters on the board first hitting a shot from 50 yards out in the fifth minute. Less than a minute later Thomaz Freitas tied the match at 1-all scoring on a header from 10 yards away.
LMU outshot the Lions, 29-17. Corner kicks were 8-4 in favor of the visitors while there was only one offsides call in the contest that also went to LMU.
Chris Mitchell played all 90 minutes in goal for MHU and recorded a season high 11 saves. Marcel Barwanietz also played the entire match in the net for LMU and made three saves.
Mars Hill will play at SAC foe Anderson University on Saturday, September 27. Match time is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
