Men's Soccer Loses at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – Mars Hill's men's soccer team lost on the road at Wingate 4-0 Saturday night at the Wingate Soccer Complex. Wingate improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Charlie Machell got the scoring started in the 25th minute, chipping one over the keeper off a lead pass from Mateo Correa.
Wingate would head to intermission with a 1-0 lead. The 'Dogs held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes.
James Scott scored from over 35 yards out, finding the upper right corner of the net to make it 2-0. Rodrigo Ugalde had the assist on the play.
Wingate took a 3-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining in regulation, when Shaun Gadsby intercepted a pass between Mars Hill defenders and beat the keeper.
Gui Peron capped the scoring in the 73rd minute. Liam Gillesphey assisted the goal from 30 yards out, which Peron headed over the keeper.
Wingate out-shot Mars Hill 12-4 on the night, holding a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Stephen Banick had three saves. Chris Mitchell had five saves for the Lions.
Mars Hill will host SAC foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, October 8. Match time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
