Men's Soccer Loses in SAC Semifinals to Tusculum in Shootout
Mars Hill lost in the semifinals of the 2014 South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer tournament to Tusculum College on penalty kicks (5-4) after a 1-1 double overtime stalemate at Manchester Meadows.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Mars Hill lost in the semifinals of the 2014 South Atlantic Conference men's soccer tournament to Tusculum College on penalty kicks (5-4) after a 1-1 double overtime stalemate at Manchester Meadows. The Lions end the 2014 campaign 9-7-1 overall. The Pioneers improved to 10-6-3 on the season and will play the no. 1 seed Wingate in the finals on Sunday.
Roberto Pimentel scored the first goal of the contest at the 20:32 mark off a pass from Tyler Linkous to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. The teams carried that score into the intermission.
Tom Allison sent the match into overtime when he found the back of the net with just 27 seconds left in regulation. Jack Donaldson assisted the match tying goal.
After two scoreless overtime periods, Tusculum advanced to the SAC tournament finals by winning the shootout, 5-4.
Mars Hill outshot the Pioneers, 15-13 while Tusculum edged the Lions in corner kicks, 7-6. The Lions outshot Tusculum 9-5 in the second half. Oliver Pannell played the entire match in goal for MHU and made five saves. Jorge Alvarez also played the full 110 minutes in the net for Tusculum and made six saves. Jack Donaldson led the Lions with four shots followed by Alex Mullen and Brayhan Yrio with three shots apiece. Pimentel and Jonathan Spicher led the Pioneers with three shots each.
