
Lions Picked to Finish Eighth in SAC Preseason Poll
The Mars Hill men’s soccer team was picked to finish in eighth place in the South Atlantic League by the league’s coaches in the preseason poll
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team was picked to finish in eighth place in the South Atlantic League by the league's coaches in the preseason poll, which was released on Tuesday.
Mars Hill tallied 56 points in the poll, two behind seventh place Lenoir-Rhyne and eight more than ninth place Catawba. The Lions return last season's leading scorer in senior midfielder Alex Mullen, who tallied four goals in nine games. Sophomores Christian McArthur and Thor-Joak Stenberg also return after each scoring two goals last season. Classmate Jack Donaldson was the team leader with three assists. Junior goalkeeper Chris Mitchell returns after finishing third in the league in save percentage (.804) and goals against average (0.90) in 2013.
Defending national runner-up Carson-Newman was tabbed as the preseason favorite as the Eagles earned 114 points and five first-place votes. Wingate was picked to finish second after racking up 111 points and six first-place votes. Queens is the third place selection with 105 points and one first-place vote, followed by Lincoln Memorial, Anderson and Coker.
Mars Hill begins the 2014 season at Meares Stadium and Ammons Family Athletic Center on Sunday, September 7 at 2 p.m. against Limestone.
