Men's Soccer Falls to UNC Pembroke

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions lost to UNC Pembroke, 5-0 Wednesday night in men's soccer action in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 5-6 overall while the Braves improved to 4-4-3.
Sam Miles put the Braves up 1-0 at the 9:49 mark. He scored off a cross from Nathan Legge. The teams carried that score into the locker room at halftime. UNC Pembroke edged the Lions in shots 5-4 in the first frame.
Tom Devitt gave the Braves a 2-0 advantage 40 seconds into the second half off a header from a free kick. The ball was sent in by Miles.
Miles added his second goal of the contest in the 62nd minute off a cross from Brett Luccia. Ten minutes later (72:33), Luccia scored on a through ball passed from Miles to make the score 4-0 in favor of the visitors. Kevin Vigebo ended the scoring from 25 yards out to make the final tally 5-0. Nathan Legge assisted the score.
The Braves out shot the Lions, 12-11 in the match. Oliver Pannell played all 90 minutes in goal for MHU and made five saves. Kenneth Perkinson also played the entire match in the net for UNCP and made three saves.
Mars Hill will host SAC foe Queens University Saturday afternoon. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
