Lions net four in win over Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-0) defeated Lees-McRae (0-1-1) in non-conference play Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-2.
It only took the Lions 3:22 to open the scoring as Peter Plougmand netted his second of the season. Just over 10 minutes later, Plougmand doubled the Lions' lead, scoring his second of the contest and third on the campaign.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Braxton Robinson potted his first of the season, extending the Lions' lead to three. In the 52nd minute, a Mars Hill penalty awarded Lees-McRae a penalty kick. Fletcher Dyson converted for the Bobcats for his second of the season.
In the 76th minute, Jorge Perez Prada scored his first as a Lion, putting Mars Hill up by three once more. Plougmand picked up his first assist of the season and fifth point of the contest.
Both teams attempted 17 shots while goalkeepers Brennan Whalen and Joshua Garvilla each made eight saves on the afternoon.
Mars Hill returns to the pitch on Wednesday, August 31 when they take on King. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
