Catawba fends off late Lions' push

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (5-3-2, 2-2-1 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (7-2-1, 4-1-1 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Saturday night on the road.
The Lions, trailing 2-1 with under 20 minutes to play, threw four shots towards the Catawba goal in an attempt to pull even, but the Indians were able to hold on with a key save from Zak Stiffler.
Catawba opened the scoring just six minutes in as Sebastian Cerda-Tous netted his fifth of the season. In the 33rd minute, the Indians doubled their lead as Bautista Vecchi-Ramello scored his fourth of the campaign.
With under five minutes remaining in the first half, Peter Plougmand scored his ninth of the season, tying his career-high for a season. Chase Jordan and Jorge Perez Prada picked up assists on the goal.
Catawba outshot the Lions 13-10. Stiffler stopped three shots for the win while Brennan Whalen made five saves in the losing effort.
The Lions return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. inside Meares Stadium when they face Lincoln Memorial.
