Lions defeat Pioneers for first home, SAC win of season

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (4-1-2, 1-0-1 SAC) defeated Tusculum (0-5-1-, 0-3-0 SAC) Wednesday night inside Meares Stadium.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Lions outshoot Tusculum 8-6, the Lions broke through in the 63rd minute. Peter Plougmand was able to split the defense and blast home his seventh of the season, proving to be the game-winning marker.
Tusculum's Pedro Concheso had two opportunities late in the contest, but sailed them high over the crossbar.
Each team posted 14 shots on the night with Plougmand leading all players with four attempts. Concheso, Michele Di Miele and Cristobal Morales each led Tusculum with three shots apiece.
Brennan Whalen made three saves for his third shutout of the season.
The Lions return to the pitch to take on Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, September 24 at 3:30 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
