Lions fall to C-N in SAC clash

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (5-2-2, 2-1-1 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (5-1-4, 3-0-3 SAC) by a score of 3-2 Wednesday night on the road.
Tim Vercelli opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Mars Hill responded in the 26th as Peter Plougmand tied the game with his eighth of the season. Muhammad Bilal and Brennan Whalen picked up the assists on the goal.
Just over three minutes later, Nic Carsh put the Eagles back in front with his third of the season. Harry Whitehead extended the Carson-Newman lead to two in the 34th minute.
With less than a minute remaining in the first half, Braxton Robinson scored his second of the season to pull the Lions within one.
Carson-Newman outshot the Lions 7-3 in the second half to hold on to the win.
Willem Kruijk led all players with four shot attempts and two assists while Filip Jensen led the Lions with three shots.
Darrin de Meza made three saves for the win while Whalen stopped four shots on the night.
The Lions take on Catawba on Saturday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m.
