Willoughby-Williams nets first of season in heated SAC game versus Coker

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (3-1-1, 0-0-1 SAC) drew 1-1 with Coker (1-1-3, 0-0-1 SAC) Saturday afternoon in their South Atlantic Conference opener.
Coker struck first in the 11th minute as Matty Tricker snuck back door off of a Colin Serredszum free kick, sliding the ball inside the near post for his first of the season.
Mars Hill applied pressure late in the first half, but were unable to breakthrough. However, in the first 1:01 of the second, the Lions did knot the game at one.
Kevonte Willoughby-Williams scored his first of the season, heading home a Filip Jensen free kick in the top right corner of the goal.
Both teams traded chances for the remaining 44 minutes, but neither could break the deadlock. Brennan Whalen made five saves in the second half while Jasper Rump made four to keep their respective teams in the contest.
Mars Hill outshot Coker 20-9 and dominated in corner kick chances, 7-0. The trio of Willoughby-Williams, Peter Plougmand, and Dan Roth each recorded four shots.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, September 14 when they take to the road to face Converse. Kickoff is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
