LMU outlasts late Mars Hill push in SAC clash

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (5-4-2, 2-3-1 SAC) was defeated by Lincoln Memorial (5-4-1, 3-2 SAC) by a score of 1-0 Wednesday night inside Meares Stadium.
Christian Hatley opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, netting his second of the season. Goalkeeper Alan Johnson launched a kick from inside the box, catching Hatley in stride for the goal.
Mars Hill, less than 10 minutes into the second half, were awarded a penalty shot, but rang the ball off the crossbar. The Lions continued to pepper the goal, outshooting the Railsplitters 11-3 in the second and 23-10 on the night.
Peter Plougmand led all players with six shot attempts followed by three apiece from Kevonte Willoughby-Williams, Dan Roth, and Jorge Perez Prada. Hatley led the Railsplitters with four shots on the night.
Johnson made six saves for the win while Brennan Whalen made two on the night.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday, October 8 when they take on Wingate. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
