Lions Open Season with Shutout Victory
MARS HILL, N.C.-- The Mars Hill women's season opened its season firing on all cylinders, with the Lions earning a 3-0 victory over Converse at Meares Stadium Thursday night.
Hannah Russell, Grace Lancaster and Cara Woolford each scored goals for Mars Hill, while Alyssa Morris picked assisted on two goals. Chelsea Parker stopped all six shots on goal to earn her sixth career shutout. The Lions improved to 1-0-0 on the season, while Converse fell to 0-1-0.
Lancaster got the Lions on board first in the 41st minute. A corner kick by Alyssa Morris found Lancaster in the box, which Lancaster powered through several defenders into the back of the net to give Mars Hill their first goal of the season.
Woolford's goal from in front came during the 54th minute. Long added her first career goal in the 77th minute to provide the final 3-0 margin.
Mars Hill will be in action again on Saturday, Sept. 1 when they host North Greenville at 2 p.m. in Meares Stadium.
