Women’s Soccer Loses at Lees-McRae
BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lions women's soccer squad lost on the road at Lees-McRae College 6-1 Wednesday night at Tate Field. Mars Hill fell to 2-1 on the year while the Bobcats improved to 1-1-1. The matched was called in the 77th minute due to lightening.
The Bobcats wasted little time getting on the board as they scored less than two minutes (1:50) into the match after Mary Beth Sullivan hit a header past the Lions' keeper off a corner kick. MHC tied the contest at the 7:42 mark when Leah Taylor scored on a cross from McKay Sharpe. Ally Titsworth gave LMC a 2-1 advantage in the tenth minute scoring on a through ball (9:20). Mallory Overholt extended the Bobcats lead to 3-1 at the 38:06 mark on a pass from Sullivan. That would end the scoring in the first half of play.
Sullivan added an unassisted goal in the 56th minute and then Sarah Mahar scored on a through ball from Kaitlyn Kerrigan to give the Bobcats a 5-1 lead with 25 minutes left in regulation (65:03). Erica Allen notched the last goal for LMC at the 73:04 mark off a cross from Mallory Overholt to make the final tally 6-1 in favor of the hosts.
Lees-McRae outshot the Lions, 23-1. LMC had seven corner kicks as opposed to Mars Hill who had none. Chelsea Parker played the first 63:39 in goal for MHC and made seven saves. Tori Stajduhar played the last 12:46 in the net for the Lions and made one save. Kaitlyn Briggs played the first 66 minutes in goal for LMC while Alicia Pierson finished the contest in goal for the Bobcats recording 10:25 minutes of play.
Mars Hill will host Bluefield College on Saturday. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
