Wilmoth, Glymph Lead Lions to Victory Over Catawba
Cadence Wilmoth and Camille Glymph combined to score 46 points as the Lions defeated Catawba 82-68
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team defeated Catawba 82-68 in Stanford Arena on Saturday afternoon. Mars Hill evens its record at 2-2 and 1-1 in the South Atlantic Conference while Catawba drops to 3-1 and 1-1 in the league.
Cadence Wilmoth scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Mars Hill. Wilmoth was a perfect 12-for12 behind the free throw line and was six-for-13 from the field. Camille Glymph scored 22 points and also had 11 rebounds. Glymph was seven-for-seven from the charity stripe.
Catawba was led by Choloe Bully's 21 points, followed by Zhaquondalee Greer with 12 points and 11 points each from Bri Johnson and Emma Ucinski. Greer led the Indians with seven rebounds.
The Lions scored the first four points of the game before the Indians tied the contest. The teams stayed within three points of each other and had four ties before Catawba pulled ahead for a 17-15 advantage. Mars Hill would pull ahead for good on a Lane layup at the midpoint of the first half. Mars Hill led by five, 24-19, following a pair of Wilmoth free throws with 7:26 to play before a Greer jumper pulled the Indians to within three, 24-21, with 6:45 to play. The Lions held a 28-21 lead before a 5-1 run for Catawba cut the Mars Hill advantage to 29-26 with just over a minute remaining in the half. A Chavis layup and two Wilmoth free throws gave the Lions a 33-26 halftime lead.
Mars Hill opened the second half on an 11-4 run to take a 44-30 lead with 16:43 to play. The Lions pushed their lead to a game-high 19 points, 58-39, following a pair of Wilmoth free throws with 12:38 remaining. With Mars Hill leading 73-58 with 3:57 to play, the Indians began a 10-1 run to trim the Lion advantage to 74-68 with 1:37 remaining. The Lions responded with a Wilmoth layup and a Glymph jumper to push the lead back to double digits with 40 seconds to play as a quartet of free throws sealed the victory.
Mars Hill travels to Carson-Newman on Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
