Mars Hill downed in OT versus UMO

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-3) was defeated by Mount Olive (1-3) by a score of 49-47 Saturday afternoon.
The Lions, trailing by three in the waning seconds of overtime, forced a Trojans' turnover and Maddie Gillie, with 14 seconds remaining, drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 47. With three seconds left in the overtime frame, a layup from Dominique Pacheco bounced around the rim and rolled in, proving to be the game-winning basket.
Mount Olive led 13-10 after the first 10 minutes of play as Kayla Jackson hit three three-pointers to lead all players with nine points. Tateyoina Harris led the Lions with four points.
The Trojans matched their 13-point output in the second with Anna Hendrix leading the team with six points. Gillie led the Lions with three as Mars Hill entered the half down by seven, 26-19.
Mars Hill scored a game-high 16 points in the third quarter as Naja Ngongba led the team with four points. The quartet of Gillie, Halei Gillis, Janette Hanni, and Elyseia Brown each added three points.
In the lowest scoring quarter in regulation, the teams combined for 16 points. Alexis Durham led all players with five points.
Jackson led all players with 12 points. Jada Priebe led all players with 10 rebounds while the duo of Tiandria Tucker and Reagan Hune added nine rebounds apiece for Mount Olive.
Gillie led the Lions with 11 points followed by seven from Harris. Ngongba led the Lions with nine rebounds followed by eight from Landyn Stewart.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, November 29 when they host Lander in their fourth straight home game. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
