Gillie nets 26 in thriller versus Coker

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (6-9, 1-4 SAC) was defeated by Coker (9-6, 2-3 SAC) by a score of 73-66 Wednesday night.
The Lions led 17-13 after the first 10 minutes of play with Maddie Gillie's nine points leading all players. Tateyoina Harris led Mars Hill with four rebounds. Both teams netted 14 points apiece in the second quarter as Mariah Mitchem and Janette Hanni each led their teams with six points.
Coker pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Mars Hill 21-15 in the frame. Dasia Lambert led the Cobras with six points as the team shot 47 percent from the floor. In the fourth, converting several free throws down the stretch, the Cobras held on and slithered away with the victory. Shawnteanna Tillman hit 7-of-10 free throw attempts and led all players with nine points.
Gillie led all players with 26 points, hitting four threes on the night. The trio of Harris, Naja Ngongba, and Jadiyah Peoples added seven points apiece. Harris led the Lions with 12 rebounds while Jo Snow led the team with three assists.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Saturday, January 13, facing Wingate. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
