Snow records 1,000th career point, Lions rout Wasps

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-4, 1-0 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (4-4, 0-2 SAC) by a score of 84-51 Wednesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium in their South Atlantic Conference opener.
In the third quarter, Jo Snow recorded five points to surpass the 1,000 career point mark. Driving for a layup, she was fouled while the basket counted. The free throw that followed, completing the three-point play, secured the career accomplishment.
Mars Hill hit 50 percent of their shots in the quarter, outscoring the Wasps 25-17. Elyseia Brown led the Lions with seven points followed by an additional five from Maddie Gillie.
The Lions topped themselves in the fourth, hitting nearly 62 percent of the their shots, going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc with Gillie hitting two and Janette Hanni hitting her lone attempt. Hanni led all players with eight points, going 3-for-3 from the floor.
Mars Hill doubled up the Wasps at the end of the first quarter, 24-12. Halei Gillis led all players with 10 points and pulled down five rebounds in seven minutes of action. Snow added seven points.
In the most tightly contested quarter, Mars Hill netted 15 points to the Wasps' 10 before entering the half up 39-22. Brown led the Lions with four points while the trio of Snow, Gillie, and Tateyoina Harris each added three points. Harris and Gillie led the Lions with four rebounds apiece as the team was dominant on the boards, pulling down 15 to the Wasps' five in the frame.
Five Lions ended the contest in double-digit scoring with Brown leading all players with 17. Snow and Gillie recorded 15 points while Gillis ended the night with 12. Hanni added 10 points. Harris led all players with eight rebounds as the Lions outrebounded Emory & Henry 49-27 on the night.
Mars Hill takes to the road to face Catawba on Saturday, December 9. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
