Harris sets career-high in season sweep of Wasps

EMORY, Va. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (13-14, 7-8 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (10-15, 5-12 SAC) by a score of 76-69 to complete the season sweep Wednesday night.
The Lions led 24-20 after the first 10 minutes of play. Tateyoina Harris led the Lions with seven points followed by six from Maddie Gillie. Emma Santoro led all players with seven rebounds for the Wasps while leading the team with six points.
Mars Hill extended their lead to 10 heading into the half, outscoring Emory & Henry 20-14. Harris once again led the Lions in the quarter, netting eight points. Aaliyah El led the team with four rebounds while Jo Snow led the team with three assists.
Breanna Yarber scored nine of the Wasps' 14 points in the second.
In the third, the Wasps outscored the Lions 26-21 with Yarber going off, hitting eight field goals and recording 18 points. Emory & Henry hit 55 percent of their shots in the third. Gillie led the Lions with 11 points while Harris pulled down six rebounds.
The fourth quarter saw the teams combine for 20 points. Mars Hill recorded 11 led by Jadiyah Peoples' four points to secure the win on the road.
Yarber led all players with 34 points while adding eight rebounds. Santoro led the team with 10 rebounds while Mimi Traynham led the team with six assists.
Harris set a career-high with 23 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Gillie led the Lions with five threes made, ending the night with 22 points. Snow led all players with seven assists while El ended the contest with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Lions host Catawba on Saturday, February 24 on Senior Day. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m.
