Mars Hill wraps up home schedule on Senior Day

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (13-15, 7-9 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (20-4, 15-3 SAC) by a score of 83-73 Saturday afternoon in their 2023-24 home finale.
In the first quarter, the Indians were led by Nala Baker's seven points, outscoring the Lions 24-14. The duo of Elyseia Brown and Naja Ngongba led the Lions with three points apiece.
The second frame saw the Indians expand their lead to 15 entering the half, up 50-35. Jada Porter led the team with seven points. Brown and Jo Snow led Mars Hill with five points apiece.
Mars Hill was led by Brown's eight points in the third, outscoring Catawba 20-14, entering the final 10 minutes of play down by just nine points. Brown hit two of the team's four threes in the frame.
In a tightly played fourth quarter, the Indians held on to the lead despite a ferocious Lions' push. Ngongba led the Lions with six points and three rebounds. Jaquoria Rucker led all players with four assists.
Ngongba led all players with 17 points and added eight rebounds. Brown ended the night with 16 points while Aaliyah El collected the double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Prior to the start of the game, seniors Jo Snow, Halei Gillis, Janette Hanni, and Chandler Adams were recognized for their contributions to the program.
The Lions face Anderson on Wednesday, February 28. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
