Lions downed on road versus Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (6-10, 1-7 SAC) was defeated by Wingate (11-4, 6-1 SAC) by a score of 92-69 Saturday afternoon.
Wingate carried a 23-13 lead into the second quarter as Emily Hege led all players with seven points. The Bulldogs shot 53 percent from the floor in the frame. Naja Ngongba led Mars Hill with four points followed by three from Jo Snow.
In the second, The Bulldogs outscored Mars Hill 24-15 with Hannah Clark leading all players with eight points. The duo of Maddie Gillie and Jaquoria Rucker led the Lions with four points apiece.
The teams both put up 20 points in the third. Tateyoina Harris led all players with seven points while Ngongba and Elyseia Brown each added five apiece.
Mars Hill shot a team-high 50 percent from the floor in the fourth. Gillie went a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor, hitting four threes to lead all players with 16 points in the quarter.
Hege led all players with 24 points while five other Bulldogs ended the contest in double-figures. Jaia Wilson collected the double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Gillie led the Lions with 23 points followed by 11 apiece from Harris and Ngongba. Harris led the Lions with 11 rebounds, completing the double-double.
Mars Hill returns home on Wednesday, January 17 when they host Lincoln Memorial. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
