Women's Soccer Loses to Anderson
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' women's soccer team lost to SAC foe Anderson University, 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC fell to 6-6-1 overall and 2-4 in the SAC. The Trojans improved to 6-6 on the season and 3-2 in the league.
Jessica Kleinberg gave Anderson a 1-0 advantage at the 28:13 mark when she scored off a Lions' turnover from 10 yards out. The goal was unassisted. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
Summer Miller added an insurance goal on a pass from Krystal Goss in the 52nd minute to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Anderson was able to keep the Lions from scoring the remaining minutes to preserve the shutout.
MHC outshot the Trojans, 14-11. The Lions edged Anderson in corner kicks, 3-1. Chelsea Parker played the first 67:36 in goal for Mars Hill and made two saves. Becca Sellars played the final 22:24 and made one save. Kaitlyn Neipp played the entire match in the net for Anderson and made eight saves.
Mars Hill will play at Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday evening. Match time is set for a 5 p.m. start.
