Mars Hill takes game one versus Limestone
The Mars Hill baseball team (6-8, 1-0 SAC) went on the road Friday night to play the Saints of Limestone (1-12, 0-1 SAC) in their first conference series of the season. The Lions defeated the Saints by a score of 11-2.
GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (6-8, 1-0 SAC) went on the road Friday night to play the Saints of Limestone (1-12, 0-1 SAC) in their first conference series of the season. The Lions defeated the Saints by a score of 11-2.
That Saints jumped out to an early lead due to a solo homer off the bat of Gianni Lombardo in the bottom half of the third.
The Lions would bounce back in the top half of the fifth, scoring four runs, three of which coming from a Scottie Lee blast over the left field wall.
The Lions would go on to plate four more in the top half of the seventh thanks to an Alex Naran RBI double, scoring Chapel Matson, and a three-run homer from the bat of Trevor Bailey. In the top of the ninth, Zach Weaver hit a double in the left field gap that scored Lee, followed by a sacrifice fly from Jordan Lathe that allowed Naran to cross the plate.
Andrew Hazell started on the mound for the Lions and threw nearly six innings, striking out six batters, and was awarded the win. He now sits at 2-1 on the year. Limestone's Cory Busse pitched 4.2 innings for the Saints, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, and was given the loss.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday, February 26tth at 12 p.m.
