CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (11-15, 5-6 SAC) dropped the second and third games of their weekend conference series against Queens University (15-12, 9-3 SAC) on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: QU 10, MHU 3
Zach Weaver opened the scoring in game one by blasting a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the second inning, only to have the Royals go on to score 10 unanswered runs through the next seven innings of play.
In the top of the eighth, the Lions attempted a late rally, plating two runs due to a pair of RBI singles coming from the bats of Kyle Jenkins and Jordan Lathe.
Weaver went 3-4 on the game, also hitting a double and a single.
Barrett Williams (2-2) started the game for the Lions and was given the loss, while the Royals' Justin Ofschanka threw seven complete innings, earning the win.
GAME TWO: QU 10, MHU 4
The Royals jumped out to a five run lead early in the game due to an RBI single from Dillon Lewis and a grand slam from MJ Sasapan. The Lions would respond by putting up four runs over the next two innings, thanks to a pair of two-run homers from Jenkins and Weaver, bringing the game to 5-4.
A Royals three-run homer off the bat of Riley Cheek in the bottom half of the fifth would prove to put the game out of reach for the Lions.
AJ Chacon (1-4) started the game and was given the loss, while the Royals' Tanner Jacobson threw seven complete innings, striking out seven to earn the win.
The Lions are back in action on Tuesday, March 22 as they go on the road to take on Young Harris. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
