
Lions drop game one versus No. 1 Wingate
The Mars Hill baseball team (18-27, 9-12 SAC) lost game one of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series against #1 Wingate (39-6, 19-2 SAC) by a score of 10-2 on Friday night.
WINGATE, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (18-27, 9-12 SAC) lost game one of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series against #1 Wingate (39-6, 19-2 SAC) by a score of 10-2 on Friday night.
The Lions opened the scoring in the top half of the second inning due to a Jordan Lathe double that plated Kyle Jenkins. Wingate would respond in the bottom half of the inning by scoring three of their own due to a pair of singles by Seaver King and Andrew Motsinger.
The Bulldogs plated three in the fifth to go up 7-1 midway through the contest. The Lions would return to the board in the sixth as Paul Martin was hit by a pitch, allowing Trey Putnam to cross the plate. Wingate tacked on three more runs for the remainder of the game. Wingate took advantage of four Lions' errors throughout the contest.
Sam Kaplan started the game for the Lions, throwing seven complete innings, and was given the loss. Wingate's Brody McCullough struck out 13 through six innings and was awarded the win.
Games two and three of the series are set for Saturday, April 23, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
