The Mars Hill baseball team (10-14, 4-4 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (14-10, 2-3 SAC) in both games by scores of 9-5 and 13-9 Monday afternoon.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (10-14, 4-4 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (14-10, 2-3 SAC) in both games by scores of 9-5 and 13-9 Monday afternoon.
GAME ONE: C-N 9, MHU 5
Carson-Newman's Zach Boze's two-run home run in the top of the fifth was the catalyst for an Eagles' 5-0 run to take game one Monday afternoon.
Boze's home run gave the Eagles their first lead of the game, 5-4, entering the sixth. After an RBI single in the top of the seventh put the Eagles up by two, Carson-Newman struck twice in the eighth to go up 8-4.
Ruben Trillo blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, but was answered by Harrison Travis in the top of the ninth.
The Lions, down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, plated three off the bat of Kyle Jenkins' triple to center field.
Boze led all players with four hits, driving in two. Jenkins and Micah Genter led their respective teams with three RBI.
Mason Mooney earned the win, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits.
GAME TWO: C-N 13, MHU 9
Carson-Newman's offense continued to roll in game two, completing the sweep with a 13-9 win.
The Eagles led 5-0 after two with Harrison Travis collecting two RBI. The Lions began to claw back in the bottom of the second, scoring three, highlighted by Trevor Bailey's RBI double.
The Eagles responded with a three-run home run from Andrew Carpenter and a solo shot from Gunnar Ricketts on the next pitch in the top of the third to build their lead to six.
Mars Hill plated four more runs in the contest, two two-run home runs off of swings from Kyle Jenkins and Tyler Lala.
Ricketts and Kilian Daughtry led the Eagles with three hits while Carpenter drove in a game-high four RBI. Jenkins went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scoring three runs.
Matt Bradley picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing four earned runs on five hits in four innings pitched.
The Lions return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 15 when they face King in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
