Mars Hill takes series versus Saints, split Saturday DH
The Lions’ baseball team (7-9, 2-1 SAC) played games two and three of their first conference series on Saturday afternoon, splitting versus Limestone (2-13, 1-2 SAC).
GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lions' baseball team (7-9, 2-1 SAC) played games two and three of their first conference series on Saturday afternoon, splitting versus Limestone (2-13, 1-2 SAC).
Game One
The Lions fell to Limestone by a score of 14-11 in the first part of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Lions jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first two innings of play with Tyler Lala, Scottie Lee, Zach Weaver, and Jordan Lathe all accumulating RBI's. The Saints would respond by putting six runs on the board on the bottom half of the fifth inning due to a pair of hit batters, a walk, and a wild pitch.
The Lions attempted a comeback in the eighth inning, scoring two runs on a Saints error and a Lathe sacrifice fly, but were unable to hold off the Saints in the bottom half of the inning as they would go on to add two insurance runs to the board.
Barret Williams started on the hill for the Lions, throwing three innings. Tristan Camp would come on in relief and was given the loss. Limestone reliever Hunter Potzner was awarded the win after throwing 3.2 scoreless innings for the Saints.
Game Two
The Lions shut out the Saints in the final game of the series by a score of 7-0.
In the first inning of play, a Trevor Bailey single plated Alex Naran to put the Lions on the board, followed by a Tyler Lala solo home run in the top of the fourth, his seventh on the year.
The Lions would go on to add five more runs in the final two innings of play due to a pair of RBI singles from Chapel Matson and Scottie Lee, followed by pair of Saints errors, to bring the Lions' run total to seven.
AJ Chacon threw a complete game for the Lions, striking out seven and only allowing three hits, earning himself the win. The Saints' Cale Wagoner was given the loss after throwing 4.2 innings.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, March 1, as the go on the road to Lincoln Memorial. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
