DAHLONEGA, GA. – The Mars Hill baseball team (2-5) dropped game one of a three-game series against the Nighthawks of North Georgia (3-1) on Friday afternoon by a score of 9-5.
North Georgia jumped out to an early 4-0 lead by the bottom of the third inning thanks to a two-run double by Tim Conway and a sacrifice fly by Connor Frost. The Lions' offense put forth a late surge with home runs coming from first baseman Zach Weaver and designated hitter Tyler Lala. The Lions rallied to score three runs in the top of the seventh coming from Jordan Lathe, Alex Naran, and Chapel Matson.
Senior AJ Chacon started the game on the bump for the Lions and threw five innings, striking out two. Nighthawks' starter Cade Heil was awarded the win, allowing two runs through six innings.
First pitch of the second game of the series is set for 1 P.M. on Saturday, February 12th and Bob Stein Stadium.
