Lions fall in tightly contested series opener versus L-R
The Mars Hill baseball team (14-19, 8-7 SAC) hosted game one of a three-game SAC series against Lenoir-Rhyne (28-7, 8-5 SAC) on Friday afternoon, where they were defeated by a score of 2-0.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (14-19, 8-7 SAC) hosted game one of a three-game SAC series against Lenoir-Rhyne (28-7, 8-5 SAC) on Friday afternoon, where they were defeated by a score of 2-0.
An RBI single in the top of the third off the bat of Drew Yniesta provided Lenoir-Rhyne the game-winning run as David Bell scored. Yniesta picked up his second RBI of the contest with another RBI single to right-center in the top of the fifth.
Sam Kaplan (4-2) started on the bump for the Lions, throwing 6.1 innings and striking out seven, and was given the loss. Lenoir-Rhyne's Austin Edwards earned the win, going 4.1 innings, while Braden Houston earned the save.
The Lions tallied six hits throughout the game, highlighted by a pair of doubles from Zach Weaver and Ruben Trillo.
The series continues tomorrow,with first pitch of game two set for 12 p.m.
