Mars Hill sweeps Cavaliers, wins series
The Mars Hill baseball team (9-11, 4-2 SAC) swept UVA Wise (5-10, 1-2 SAC) Saturday afternoon by scores of 10-4 and 5-3.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (9-11, 4-2 SAC) swept UVA Wise (5-10, 1-2 SAC) Saturday afternoon by scores of 10-4 and 5-3.
GAME ONE: MHU 10, UVAW 4
The Lions evened the series at one with a 10-4 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Mars Hill led 4-3 entering the bottom of the fifth. They would go on to score five runs over the next two innings to build an insurmountable lead and win their eight of the year.
Chapel Matson's bases clearing triple in the bottom of the sixth put the Lions up 8-3. Later in the inning, he scored on a passed ball. Kyle Jenkins, in the bottom of the seventh, collected his third RBI of the contest, scoring Trey Putnam off of a RBI single.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the bottom of the first off of Tyler Lala's double that scored Weaver. In the top of the third, UVA Wise took a 2-1 lead with Tyler Campbell's two-run home run to left field.
Alex Naran's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third tied the game at two. Jenkins gave the Lions the lead again in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run.
Barrett Williams threw 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits for the win.
GAME TWO: MHU 5, UVAW 3
Tied at three entering the bottom of the sixth, Kyle Jenkin's two-run double proved to be the game-winning swing, collecting his fifth RBI of the day.
The Lions opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with two solo home runs off the bats of Scottie Lee and Zach Weaver. In the bottom of the second, the Lions went up 3-0 as Chad Sikes scored off of a Cavalier balk.
UVA Wise tied the game at three in the top of the third, highlighted by Justin Reed's RBI double down the left field line that tied the game.
Sam Kaplan threw three perfect innings, striking out four to earn his second win of the season. Ryan Whitson allowed two runs on one hit and was credited with the loss.
Mars Hill hosts King in non-conference action on Tuesday, March 8. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
