Lions fall to Columbus State

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (0-2) was defeated by Columbus State (2-0) by a score of 95-65 Saturday afternoon.
Mars Hill shot nearly 70 percent from the floor in the first quarter as Zanah Boyd and Maddie Gillie led the Lions with six points apiece. The team hit all four three-pointers attempted and led 22-21 entering the second.
Columbus State reversed the roll, outscoring the Lions 31-15 to carry a 53-36 lead going into the half. Both Olonna Rawls and Imani Arnold scored eight in the frame for the Cougars.
A more closely contested third quarter saw the teams combine for 37 points with the Cougars scoring 19. They would go on to outscore the Lions 24-12 in the fourth, shooting over 44 percent from the floor.
Columbus State shot nearly 49 percent from the floor to the Lions' 42 percent. Mars Hill hit 6-of-13 three-pointers.
