Lions fall to No. 16 Bulldogs

WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-18, 1-16 SAC) was defeated 87-52 versus No. 16 Wingate (19-2, 17-1 SAC) Saturday afternoon on the road.
Bryanna Troutman scored 10 of the Bulldogs' 21 first quarter points to lead all players. Peyton Davis added seven while Haleigh Brandon led all players with seven rebounds. Maddie Gillie pulled down three rebounds and scored two points in the first.
The Lions were held to just nine points in the second quarter with Porcelain Goldsborough scoring four and collecting three rebounds. Troutman and Jaia Wilson led the Bulldogs with five points apiece.
Wingate shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, carrying a 38-20 lead going into the half.
The Bulldogs continued to shoot well from the floor, hitting 55 percent of their shots in the third quarter, putting up 28 points. Mikayla Dyson netted 10 followed by Lauren Sullivan's nine. De'Ja Marshall scored eight of her 12 points in the third and pulled down three rebounds. Gillie and Emily Novick each scored six for the Lions in the final quarter of play.
Wingate shot 51 percent from the floor and hit nine three-pointers on the day.
