Marshall joins 1,000 point club in contest versus Wingate
The Mars Hill women’s basketball team (1-10, 1-8 SAC) was defeated by Wingate (9-1, 7-0 SAC) by a score of 81-55 to close out the 2021 slate Saturday afternoon at home.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-10, 1-8 SAC) was defeated by Wingate (9-1, 7-0 SAC) by a score of 81-55 to close out the 2021 slate Saturday afternoon at home.
In the first half of play, De'Ja Marshall joined the 1,000 point club, netting 11 points to lead all players. Porcelain Goldsborough added seven for the Lions in the first 20 minutes of play.
Bryanna Troutman led the Bulldogs with 10 followed by Lauren Sullivan's nine. Troutman also pulled down nine rebounds. The Bulldogs hit half of their three-point attempts, draining seven with Lauren Sullivan hitting three of those attempts. Wingate shot over 48 percent in the first half to the Lions' 37.
Wingate continued to extend their lead, outscoring the Lions 37-23 in the second half of play. Troutman completed her double-double, finishing the day with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Haleigh Brandon added 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Both Goldsborough and Marshall netted 11 points to lead the team. Goldsborough added a team-high four assists.
