Mars Hill felled in first of home-and-home versus Tusculum

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-19, 1-17 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (8-14, 6-12 SAC) by a score of 97-49 Monday evening inside Chambers Gymnasium.
Tusculum opened the game on a 15-0 run in the first three minutes of play and led by as many 22 during the first half. They shot nearly 46 percent from the floor and hit eight three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of play. Mya Belton led all players with 15 points and five rebounds.
Brianne Rosales was the offensive spark for the Lions, recording eight of the team's 23 first half points and pulling down five rebounds. Maddie Gillie followed with seven.
The Pioneers continued to pile it on, outscoring the Lions 54-26 in the second half of play. They netted an additional 12 threes in the half, finishing the contest with 20. Five Pioneers finished in double-figures with Belton and Brianna Dixon each scoring 19 points.
Tusculum shot 46 percent from the floor to the Lions 30 and outrebounded the Lions 41-38.
