Lions downed in hard fought battle versus UVA Wise
The Mars Hill women’s basketball team (1-17, 1-15 SAC) was defeated by UVA Wise (7-13, 7-10 SAC) by a score of 67-56 Wednesday night inside Stanford Arena.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-17, 1-15 SAC) was defeated by UVA Wise (7-13, 7-10 SAC) by a score of 67-56 Wednesday night inside Stanford Arena.
The Lions entered the half trailing by just two points. Despite UVA Wise outshooting the Lions 38 percent to 29, the Lions were able to hang with the Cavaliers in the first 20 minutes of play.
Maddie Gillie and Kalee Johnson led their respective teams with 10 points apiece. De'Ja Marshall led all players with six rebounds in the first half while Caitlyn Ross led the Cavaliers with five and added four assists.
The Cavaliers pulled away in the second half, specifically the fourth quarter as they outscored the Lions 21-15. They finished the game with 50 of their 67 points down low in the paint.
Johnson led all players with 26 points followed by Katlin Burger's 13. Gillie led the Lions with 19 points while Marshall collected her second straight double-double with 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
