Athletic Highlights: January 15-January 22, 2018
Women's Basketball: The Lions were downed by visiting Wingate on Saturday afternoon. Gabby Gianikos led the team with 12 points, followed by Mariah Johnson who added 10. The Lions face ninth ranked Carson-Newman and Newberry on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon, respectively.
Men's Basketball: Mars Hill suffered a loss to Wingate Saturday afternoon. Vernon Jackson paced the Lions' offense by scoring 16 points. Bennett Wilson chipped in nine, adding five rebounds and four assists. Mars Hill takes on Carson-Newman and Newberry this week.
Men's Tennis: The Lions were swept by UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon in an exhibition game. They return home on February 6, to kick off their 2018 regular season with a matchup against Belmont Abbey at 1 p.m. at the Hart Tennis Complex.
Women's Track and Field: The Lions placed seventh out of 14 teams at the Appalachian Open Indoor Track Meet on Saturday afternoon. Nyla Feeney set a personal record in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:28.31. Cameron Saxon placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 16'7" to finish first amongst all other Division II competitors. The Lions return to Johnson City on February 2-3 when they travel to East Tennessee State University.
Men's Track and Field: Mars Hill finished 12th at the Appalachian Open Indoor Track Meet on Saturday. Noah Allison placed second in the 3000 meter run and first amongst DII competitors with a time of 9:05.63.
