Athletic Highlights: March 12-March 19, 2018
Baseball: Mars Hill went 1-2 in the weekend series at Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference play. The Lions dropped game one on Friday evening by a score of 9-6. Travis Owens had a team-high two RBI while Christian Stampler, Shomarii Thomas and Cody Cline each had two hits. The team responded in game one of Saturday's doubleheader with an 11-6 victory. Matt Honeycutt went 5-for-5 with four RBIs. Alec Bivins earned his first win of the year. The Lions, leading late in game two, sacrificed three runs to the Bears, giving Lenoir-Rhyne the 4-3 win.
Softball: The Lions split their first conference contests with Queens on Sunday at Enka High School. Mars Hill's explosive offense was on display in an 11-3 game one victory with Ragan Broome driving in six runs followed by Kayleigh Jonas, who went 4-for-4 with four RBI off of two two-run homeruns. Game two saw the Royals come away with an 8-4 win to earn the split. Bobbi Jones led the team with three RBI on a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth.
Women's Golf: Mars Hill finished last (9 of 9) in the Coker Women's Spring Invitational, played on Monday and Tuesday of last week. Janie Gooch continued her streak of being the top finisher for the Lions all season with an 18th place finish. Marie Syvertsen finished in 29th.
Women's Lacrosse: The Lions opened up South Atlantic Conference play with a 23-11 loss to Wingate in the first conference game in program history. Olivia Hokanson led the Lions with four goals. Kiersten Foust (3g) and Molly Tobias (2g, 1a) each had three points.
Men's Lacrosse: Mars Hill fell to Wingate, 15-10, on Saturday afternoon in conference action. Dima Ferreira led the Lions with four points (2g, 2a). Parker Beaudry recorded a hat-trick and Noah Landriault scored his first career goal.
