Athletic Highlights: April 2-April 9, 2018
Baseball: Mars Hill had a perfect week, going 6-0, including a three-game sweep over Carson-Newman. The Lions defeated UVa-Wise by a score of 12-8 on Tuesday and followed up with a two-game sweep over Piedmont International on Wednesday. Josh Hall led the Lions with six RBI in the SAC matchup between the Eagles that featured a grand slam in the second game of the series. Troy Hall pitched his way to a win and two saves on the week allowing no earned runs.
Softball: The Lions finished the week with a 1-3 record, earning a split with Carson-Newman on Wednesday and dropping both games to Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday. The Lions used a six run seventh inning to take game two from Carson-Newman. In the come-from-behind win over the Eagles, Bobbi Jones led the team with four RBI including a three-run homerun. Christiana Marasa led the Lions offensively in their game one defeat to the Bears with a three-run double.
Men's Lacrosse: Mars Hill went 0-2 during the week, falling to Catawba by a score of 11-9 and Queens, 19-7. Spencer Andrews and Jake Trafton each had four goals in that span. Dima Ferreira had five assists over both contests.
Women's Lacrosse: The Lions went 0-2 in South Atlantic Conference play this past week with a 16-4 defeat versus Tusculum and 20-6 loss against Queens. Olivia Hokanson had six goals over the two games.
Men's Tennis: Mars Hill was edged by Carson-Newman, 5-4, on Thursday and fell to Catawba, 8-1 on Friday in South Atlantic Conference play. The Lions went 4-for-6 in singles matches, with Ben Reid, Tom Farman, Kyrel Trim and Pedro Pinassi earning the victories. Rodrigo Ramos earned the lone Mars Hill win against the Indians in singles play.
Women's Tennis: The Lions went 0-2 over the week, losing 7-2 to Carson-Newman and 9-0 to Coker. Evan Lake and Jasha Geerdink won their respective singles matches against the Eagles on Thursday.
Men's Golf: The Mars Hill men's golf team placed eighth at the LMU Tennessee River Rumble with Harry Butler as the top Lions' finisher, placing 11th overall.
