Baseball Loses to WSSU in 11 Innings
The Lions’ baseball squad fell to Winston-Salem State 3-2 in 11 innings on Saturday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lions' baseball squad fell to Winston-Salem State 3-2 in 11 innings on Saturday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. Mars Hill fell to 6-2 on the season while the Rams improved to 2-3 on the season.
Dylan Powers led MHU at the plate going 2-5 with a RBI. Lance Edwards followed going 2-5 with a run scored. Rayshelon Carolina was 1-5 with a RBI and a run scored. Alec Bivins threw the final 4.2 innings in relief to suffer the loss (0-1) on the mound for the Lions. He did not allow an earned run and scattered three hits while striking out two batters. Zac Brown started the contest and threw five innings allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out four batters. Kaleb McCurry pitched the sixth inning allowing two hits and no runs.
Brandon Fowl, Connor Boden and Phillip Page led the Rams with two hits apiece. Page added a double and a pair of RBI. Devin McLemo picked up the win (1-0) pitching the final 0.1 innings in relief.
After four scoreless innings, WSSU scored two runs in the fifth frame on two hits and one Lion error. Page hit his two-RBI double in the at-bat.
The Lions tied the game in the top of the sixth inning on three hits highlighted by RBI singles by Carolina and Powers. Boden singled to right field with two outs in the eleventh inning to plate Fowl for the game winning run. Fowl reached base on a single through the right side.
The teams will conclude the three-game set tomorrow with a double-header. The first game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
